Fortnite Introduces Party Worlds Mode

Fortnite is introducing Party Worlds, a new mode designed as a place for players to hang out, play mini-games, and make new friends.

Fortnite has managed to stay fresh over its roughly four-year existence by consistently tweaking and adding new content to its various game modes. Continuing on this trend, the free-to-play title is adding a brand new mode altogether - although it might not be what gamers are expecting.

Epic Games' ever-popular battle royale game is currently in the final days of its Season 8. The eighth season will also serve as the final one for Fortnite Chapter 2, which is ending with a special event, aptly titled "The End." Epic recently revealed additional details regarding The End, which will usher in the highly anticipated Fortnite Chapter 3.

Detailed on the official Fortnite website, the new Party Worlds mode seeks to take the element of combat out of the equation, putting the focus on mini-games and social interaction. Epic Games gives a pair of worlds as an example, with one being a theme park called Walnut World, and a nightclub named the Late Night Lounge. Players can create their own map in Party Worlds as well, so long as they adhere to the guidelines. The main parameters include not focusing on combat or damage, a high focus on self-expression, and heavily encourage social interactions.

Players interested in submitting their own ideas can do so by using the tag “Party World” for their island and submit it through the Fortnite Discover submission form. While the inital premise of Party Worlds at first seems to overlap with Fortnite's Creative Hub, Party Worlds actually has several key differences, both in its format and its intent. While players can socialize in Hubs, their primary purpose is to discover new content and creative experiences. Party Worlds don't link to other islands, and is designed as a place for players to relax and have a good time with friends.

In addition to a new game mode, Fortnite is also adding new Air Jordan cosmetics. Starting today, players will have access to a set of styles inspired by and featuring one of the brand's most iconic sneakers; the Air Jordan XI Cool Grey. A new LTM called Jumpman Zone sends players on a scavenger hunt through six portals to unlock the Air Jordan XI Cool Greys, after which the "MVP Rooms" will be unlocked. These rooms feature a variety of trickshot challenges, which players can complete to unlock alternate styles of the latest Jordan outfits.

Fortnite's Party Worlds mode is an interesting effort from Epic Games to help expand and diversify its content offerings. With Chapter 3 fast approaching, its certainly not the only new thing coming to Fortnite, but rather just the beginning.

Fortnite is free-to-play on PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
