So, what does archive mean in Fortnite? This new option began showing up in Lockers across Fortnite following the v21.30 update, but many in the community are wondering what exactly this feature does. Let's go over what archiving means in Fortnite and how to archive and unarchive cosmetics.

The Fortnite archive feature is a way to declutter your Fortnite Locker. Now that we're nearly five years into Fortnite's lifespan, many in the community have a giant collection of cosmetics sitting in their Locker. However, not every cosmetic sees the light of day, especially the minor stuff like Emoticons and Sprays. With more and more cosmetics releasing with every event and Item Shop rotation, it's about time Epic Games created a solution to everyone's overflowing Lockers.
Alas, the archive feature was born. Archiving allows you to clean up your Lockers and hide unwanted cosmetics out of sight. Have any Skins, Emotes, or other cosmetics you don't use anymore? Archive it and it'll be hidden away from your primary Locker and/or Emote Wheel.
Archiving in Fortnite won't actually delete your items — it's simply a way to make your Locker more manageable. You can always go back and unarchive a cosmetic to bring it back to the Locker.
Below are a few extra notes about archiving in Fortnite:
- Archived cosmetics will remain equipped in the Locker and Presets
- If you archive a favourite item, it will unfavourite that item
- Archived Emotes will no longer appear on the in-game Emote Wheel
- If you archive every Harvesting Tool, you will automatically equip the default Pickaxe
- If you archive every Glider, you will automatically equip the default Glider
- The Fortnite No Sweat Summer and Fortnite Rebuild the Block Quests offer tons of free rewards to bolster your Locker!

To begin the archive process, open up your Fortnite Locker and select the cosmetic slot of your choice, for example, Outfit, Emote, Wrap, etc. Here, you'll notice a new "archive" option in the bottom right-hand corner of the screen. Hold L3 or Z, depending on whether you use a controller or keyboard, to start archiving.
Now, you can choose what cosmetics you want to archive. Select as many or as few items as you'd like, then press the "archive (#) item(s)" button at the bottom to confirm the archiving process. You will no longer see the archived items in your Locker.

To view your archived items, you'll need to open up a cosmetic slot like Outfit and press the "sort + filter" option above the rows of cosmetics. At the bottom of this submenu, you'll see an option to filter by archived. Select the archive filter to display all of your archived cosmetics in that particular cosmetic slot.
To unarchive previously archived cosmetics, hold L3 or Z again and select the items you wish to unarchive.
That about sums up Fortnite's brand-new archive feature. Unclog that cluttered Locker and archive those dusty cosmetics you haven't equipped in years. In the end, all you'll have left in your Locker are the items you actually use!
