The Redmi Note 9 is here! Xiaomi on Monday launched a new budget smartphone in India. The company's newly launched smartphone, that is, the Redmi Note 9, will join the current line up that features Redmi Note 9 Pro and Redmi Note 9 Pro Max.

Redmi Note 9's first sale will be held on July 24. The smartphone will be available on Mi.com and Amazon India. Interested buyers can also purchase the phone through offline stores. 

The 4GB+64GB model is priced at 11,999. The top-end model with 6GB RAM and 128GB storage will be available for 14,999.  There is also a 4GB+128GB variant, which is priced at 13,999. 

Redmi Note 9 features

Xiaomi's new Redmi Note 9 looks identical to other smartphones in the Note 9 series. It has a punch-hole camera on the top left corner on the front. It has a glass back panel which houses a square-like quad-camera setup. Another highlight of the phone is the large 5,000mAh battery which is said to deliver over two days of back up. It also supports reverse charging. The phone comes in Aqua Green, Pebble Grey and Arctic White colour options.

Redmi Note 9 specifications

Redmi Note 9 comes with a 6.53-inch full HD+ display with 450 nits brightness and Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection. It also has a splash-proof nano-coating.

The smartphone features as many as four rear cameras. The setup includes a 48-megapixel primary sensor (Samsung ISOCELL Bright GM1, f/1.79 aperture), 8-megapixel ultra-wide-angle sensor (118-degree field of view), 2-megapixel macro sensor, and 2-megapixel depth camera (autofocus). The phone also comes with a Pro Video mode. It has a 13-megapixel front-facing camera.

For performance, Redmi Note 9 banks on MediaTek's gaming-focused Helio G85 octa-core processor clocked up to 2.0Ghz (two Cortex-A75 cores clocked up to 2.0GHz and six Cortex-A55 cores clocked up to 1.8GHz). It also has MediaTek HyperEngine for superior performance. The chipset is coupled with up to 6GB of RAM and up to 128GB of storage.

Redmi Note 9 is powered by a 5,020mAh battery. It comes with a 22.5W fast charger. Other key specifications of the phone include a fingerprint sensor, IR blaster, 3.5mm headphone jack, and USB Type-C support.

Redmi Note 9 vs competition

Xiaomi's latest Redmi Note 9 will compete with a range of under 15,000 smartphones in India. This includes Poco M2 Pro, Samsung Galaxy M21, Realme Narzo 10, and Realme 6. You can also check out the last year's Redmi Note 8 and Vivo's U20.

The Redmi Note 9 lineup now features as many as three smartphones now. The base model is Redmi Note 9, which starts at 11,999. The Redmi Note 9 Pro is available for a starting price of 13,999. The top-end variant, Redmi Note 9 Pro Max, is available for a starting price of 16,999.

New phones coming soon

Redmi Note 9 will also take on a range of mid-range and budget smartphones that are going to launch in India soon. Samsung has already confirmed its 6,000mAh battery phone, Galaxy M31s, will launch in India on July 30. Realme will showcase Realme 6i on July 24. Infinix is also going to bring Smart 4 Plus with 6,000mAh battery to India on July 21.
