Pickle Rick is now available as a Back Bling in Fortnite. To obtain him, players must play Zero Build Horde Mode and complete several challenges.
Fortnite has introduced another neat reward for Rick and Morty fans, celebrating one of the show’s most iconic moments by introducing Pickle Rick as a fully reactive Back Bling players can equip. Rick and Morty already made their Fortnite debuts several seasons ago, but it’s evident that Fortnite’s developers at Epic Games clearly felt that any crossover would be incomplete without at least a nod to Rick’s bizarre and hilarious transformation. While much of Fortnite’s best content is premium and usually has to be paid for, either in the Item Shop or by purchasing and leveling up the latest Fortnite Battle Pass, the Pickle Rick Back Bling can actually be claimed for free. However, while this is undoubtedly great for free-to-play players, anyone looking to claim Pickle Rick needs to complete a series of challenges in Fortnite’s Zero Build Horde Rush Mode.
Fortnite players have received lots of new cosmetic content lately, with the villainous Herald now available as an Outfit for players who complete Fortnite’s special Herald quests. For the Pickle Rick Back Bling, players must change tack and switch from the game’s traditional battle royale modes to the limited-time Zero Build Horde Rush mode. In this mode, squads of players take on waves of hostile Cube Monsters in order to survive, all while moving across the map, scoring combos, and picking up score multipliers. This culminates in a challenging final boss battle, allowing players to get new high scores. Nine special quests are available in this mode, each of which rewards 20,000 Battle Pass XP when completed.
How To Unlock Fortnite’s Pickle Rick Back Bling
Much like the process for unlocking Fortnite’s free Chrome Punk Outfit, unlocking the Pickle Rick Back Bling requires players to grind. While nine quests are available, players only need to complete eight to unlock the Back Bling:
Challenge |
Reward |
Tips |
---|---|---|
Collect 20 Score Multipliers |
20,000 Battle Pass XP |
Collecting score multipliers takes time. Players should ensure their squadmates are covering them, as a lone player can easily be overwhelmed by Cube Monsters. |
Deal 6,000 Melee Damage to Cube Monster Spawners |
20,000 Battle Pass XP |
Cube Monster Spawners will appear throughout the match. To do melee damage, players can strike them with their pickaxes. Players don’t have access to special melee weapons, such as Darth Vader’s red lightsaber, but pickaxes do increased damage in this mode. |
Earn 2,000,000 combined Team Points |
20,000 Battle Pass XP |
This quest must be done over multiple Zero Build Horde Rush matches. |
Earn a Team Score of at least 350,000 in a single match |
20,000 Battle Pass XP |
Players can increase their scores by collecting score multipliers which multiply the whole team’s score. Getting KO Streaks also multiplies individual player scores. |
Earn a 50x KO Streak |
20,000 Battle Pass XP |
The main challenge is maintaining a KO Streak and killing monsters while having to reload. In addition, players should aim to have a few of Fortnite’s best new weapons equipped that they can switch to. |
Eliminate 500 Cube Monsters |
20,000 Battle Pass XP |
Can be done over multiple matches. |
Eliminate 100 Ranged Cube Monsters With Sideways Weapons |
20,000 Battle Pass XP | |
Open 45 Chests |
20,000 Battle Pass XP | |
Get 70 Headshots on Cube Monsters In A Single Match |
20,000 Battle Pass XP |
Sniper rifles are available in this mode but aren’t recommended due to the number of enemies that spawn. Most horde enemies will actually rush the player, making close-range headshots with all weapon types much easier. |
Once players have completed eight of these challenges, they’ll receive the Pickle Rick Back Bling. Fortnite has improved a lot since launch, and this arguably includes improvements in enemy AI, making Horde Mode a true test of players’ skills. However, with a good squad, Fortnite players will be able to push through and emerge victorious over the horde.
