World of Warcraft shares an amazing selection of emotes featuring the new Dragonflight race and a hilarious tale of how they came to be.
World of Warcraft is in the process of developing Dragonflight, its newest expansion pack. The World of Warcraft development team just delivered a bit of Dragonflight joy by sharing a collection of hilarious dracthyr emotes, as well as the unfortunate-but-funny event that led to their creation.
The dracthyr are a new draconic World of Warcraft race being added in Dragonflight. The dracthyr come as one part of the new Evoker class – a wielder of dragon magic who devastates foes and restores their allies. These new creatures are the subject of the two-dozen emotes players can download for use on Discord, Twitch, and other social media platforms.
These emojis have a comically tragic origin story. Apparently, one of the character artists for Dragonflight missed a features team meeting due to technical issues, causing them to draw a sad cartoon dracthyr superimposed over a screencap of the dilemma. The World of Warcraft development team fell in love with the cartoon character, which eventually became part of a series of emotes on the Dragonflight slack. Finally, the devs decided to share their collection with the community.
The emotes themselves are adorable and hilarious. A mixture of static and animated emojis, the comical cartoons depict tons of recognizable memes, from the Bugs Bunny “No” meme to the Laughing Lizard. The collection is a little piece of love from the dracthyr Evoker features team, and is free to download for all players from the official World of Warcraft page.
Fans loved the new dracthyr emojis, and immediately started downloading them for use in their social media. The hilarious story of their creation is a fun peek behind the development window, and got a good laugh out of many. Some fans began editing the emojis to mimic the colors and horns of their own personal dracthyr, as the new World of Warcraft race has tons of customization options.
World of Warcraft is currently in the middle of alpha testing Dragonflight. Over the course of the next several weeks, World of Warcraft will roll out tests for the rest of the zones, dungeons, and specializations for Dragonflight. It will likely begin beta testing shortly after, sometime in September or October. The alpha testing has given players the chance to play the new dracthyr Evoker race/class combo and learn more about the history of the dracthyr, dragons, and the Dragon Isles they call home. Players are excited to get their hands on Dragonflight later this year and create their perfect dragon character.
World of Warcraft is available now on PC. The Dragonflight expansion is set to launch later this year.
