A weekly quest introduced to Fortnite challenges players to dislodge a boulder with a slide kick. Here's how players can find and slide kick boulders.
Fortnite’s newest season has begun, bringing brand-new daily and weekly quests, including one objective challenging players to dislodge one of the island’s boulders with a slide kick. New and returning players will undoubtedly be familiar with Fortnite’s quest sets, which frequently contain strange, odd, and sometimes wholesome quest objectives. These often challenge players to engage with the game’s most obscure mechanics to earn valuable Battle Pass XP and Battle Stars. For example, this quest requires players to locate one of the Fortnite island’s runaway boulders and send it flying down a hillside by dislodging it with a slide kick. Of course, players may already know where to find boulders on the Fortnite island, but slide kicks are a lesser-known recent addition to the game, and completing this challenge is a little trickier than it sounds on paper.
Slide kicks sound like a rather fancy new feature, but their implementation in the game has been rather low-key. Essentially, all players have to do to slide kick something is to hit it while sliding. The sliding mechanic involves pressing the crouch button while sprinting, causing players to hit the ground and slide on their knees. The distance players can slide is limited but is increased if players can build momentum, such as by gaining speed while sliding on a downward slope. Unfortunately, there doesn’t appear to be an actual slide kick animation, so players might initially be confused about whether they’ve done anything at all.
However, there’s 20,000 XP for Fortnite’s new seasonal battle pass up for grabs in return for completing this quest, and if previous seasons are anything to go by, Fortnite’s weekly quests will only get more challenging in the future.
How To Dislodge A Boulder With A Slide Kick In Fortnite

The first thing players have to do is to locate a runaway boulder. Luckily, this is easy enough as several can be found all over the Fortnite island, including in two areas where several boulders can be found in relatively close proximity. The hills surrounding Rave Cave and Logjam Junction have a few boulders, as do the hills surrounding Tilted Towers and Coney Crossroads, as marked on the map above. Any of these boulders will suffice, although players might like to visit Coney Crossroads to get a birthday cake and celebrate Fortnite’s 5th birthday party at the same time.
Slide kicks don’t do a lot of damage. Players who avoid making themselves into easy targets should strike boulders twice with their pickaxes before trying to slide kick them. This will loosen the boulder a bit and save time. Players will still need to sprint and slide into these boulders a few times to dislodge them. There’s no visual indicator that a boulder is about to come loose, so it may appear as if nothing is happening.
Sliding can also be tricky as many of these boulders are located on hilltops, and players can’t build much forward momentum by sliding downhill. However, as long as players hit the boulders while sliding, they’ll be doing some damage, and eventually, they will come free and roll away. While most players still have a lot of XP to earn before unlocking Fortnite’s Spider-Gwen cosmetics, every little bit helps.
