Drake and Ninja teaming up to stream some late night Fortnite caught just about everyone’s attention, and now the community is hoping Epic Games will honor that event in-game.
After Drake and Ninja’s record-breaking Fortnite stream, fans and players started drawing up their own mock “Hotline Bling” emotes that Epic could include in the game. One example, seen below, includes Drake’s well-known “Hotline Bling” stance from his 2015 music video.
People were also pretty quick to jump on the meme bandwagon after Drake and Ninja began streaming. This video below is based on an incredibly popular gaming meme that features Drake dancing in the “Hotline Bling” video, performing moves associated with different games. Drake can be seen dropping items in this version below.
It’s not only a great video, but incredibly relevant to Ninja’s stream. We learned that Drake is the type of guy who drops items for his friends so they can pick them up and use those tools to their advantage. Drake! What a team player. You can see Drake drop some of his items — and munch on some pizza — in the video below. Ninja’s stream with Drake had over 635,000 concurrent viewers at its peak, surpassing streamer Dr. DisRespect’s previous Twitch record of 388,000 concurrents.
It seems likely that Epic is going to try and capitalize on Drake’s sudden interest in Fortnite and include the emote, but it wouldn’t be the first studio to do so. Destiny included a “Hotline Bling” emote back in 2016, just a couple of months after “Hotline Bling” became the biggest thing in the world.
Drake’s quick dance became all the rage on Twitter and Vine (RIP), with people coming up with fantastic edits that had to do with popular culture and gaming. Remember how popular the Wii Tennis version of the dance became? We do.
Polygon has reached out to Epic for comment on whether Drake’s “Hotline Bling” could become an emote in Fortnite.
