The Aqua Teen Hunger Force was originally a spin-off from Adult Swim's Space Ghost Coast to Coast talk show, that eventually became its own separate entity spawning a multitude of memes, merchandise, and even real-life mayhem. The trio, Frylock, Master Shake, and Meatwad, had their own movie back in 2007, but now they're back in a brand-new movie: Aqua Teen Forever: Plantasm.
Plantasm was confirmed by Adult Swim back in May 2021 and will finally be coming to digital, 4K Ultra HD, and Blu-ray on November 8, 2022 from Warner Bros. Home Entertainment. Aqua Teen Forever: Plantasm has Frylock, Shake, Meatwad (still voiced by Cary Means, Dana Snyder, and ATHF co-creator Dave Willis) with their neighbor Carl, as they split up and then get back together to fight the monolithic corporation, Amazin, led by tech mogul, Neil (voiced by Peter Serafinowicz) and his trusty scientist sidekick, Elmer (Paul Walter Hauser). Joining the cast will be Natasha Rothwell (HBO's White Lotus), Robert Smigel (SNL, Bob's Burgers), and Tim Robinson (I Think You Should Leave). The movie was written and directed by series creators Dave Willis, Matt Maiellaro and produced by Williams Street Productions. Aqua Teen Forever: Plantasm will also be available for streaming on HBO Max and will air on Adult Swim sometime in 2023.
Aqua Teen's first movie, Aqua Teen Hunger Force Colon Movie Film for Theaters--yes, that was the real title--premiered in New York City on April 10, 2007, and was released theatrically on April 13, 2007, by First Look Pictures. It grossed $5.5 million on a $750,000 budget, making it the 12th highest-grossing R-rated animated film. A sequel titled Death Fighter was announced but was ultimately scrapped in 2015.
